The Skovos exploration achievement in Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred has become unexpectedly troublesome for completionists because of an issue with how explored regions are recorded. Even players who appear to have finished the entire map can find the achievement still locked. If you are preparing a character for the expansion and spending time on Diablo 4 Gold, it helps to understand the current workaround before repeating the same areas over and over.

The problem became especially noticeable after Blizzard changed the exploration requirement. The original requirement was 67 areas, but it was later reduced to 65. Unfortunately, this adjustment does not retroactively trigger the achievement for everyone. Characters already sitting at 65/65 may remain stuck because the game needs to see the counter actively increase from 64/65 to 65/65.

Understanding the Exploration Counter

The most important detail is that reaching 65/65 is not always enough. If your existing character reached the new requirement before the game received the appropriate tracking update, the achievement system may not recognize the completed condition.

Continuing to explore the same character can therefore be a waste of time. Instead, the most practical solution is to create a fresh character and make the game calculate Skovos exploration from the beginning.

Choose the Correct Realm

Start by checking the realm where your original map completion occurred. If you previously completed Skovos exploration on Softcore, create your new character on Hardcore. If the original character was Hardcore, switch to Softcore for the new attempt.

Using the Eternal Realm is also recommended because it lets you monitor regional exploration progress directly. PC players can press “W” to view the region information and keep track of the number as they uncover new locations.

This makes the process much easier because you can deliberately stop at 64/65 instead of accidentally reaching the target before the final required area becomes available.

Keep the Campaign Active

Do not skip the Lord of Hatred campaign during this workaround. One of the required exploration locations is connected to story progression and cannot be reliably registered through ordinary endgame exploration.

The northern portion of Atanos Island, particularly the Pools of Creation, is the critical area. It becomes accessible as part of the campaign, which means players who skip the story may have difficulty getting the final exploration point to count.

For this reason, the fresh character should progress through the campaign normally until this section becomes available.

Stop at 64/65

Once your new character is ready, explore the rest of Skovos and uncover the map as thoroughly as possible. The goal is to reach exactly 64/65 before entering the final campaign-related area.

At this stage, avoid unnecessary attempts to force the final point. Continue with the story instead. When campaign progression takes you into the Pools of Creation, the missing exploration area should finally register.

The important moment is the counter changing from 64/65 to 65/65. Since the game sees this as a fresh progression event, the “No Island Unturned” or “Skovos Sojourner” achievement should unlock. Players generally do not need to defeat the final boss for this particular trigger.

Locations Worth Checking

If you are currently stuck at 64/65, there are several easy-to-miss places worth revisiting before starting over.

Saltwind Stronghold is one common trouble spot. Small coastal sections and nearby islands can sometimes fail to register until the stronghold has been completed or the surrounding locations are revisited afterward.

There is also a northern blue section connected to a campaign traversal sequence. During the relevant quest, players need to use the ballista or zipline to cross into the area. Moving through the story too quickly can make it easy to overlook this section.

A Cleaner Route to Completion

The Skovos achievement issue can make a straightforward exploration task feel much more complicated than it should be. The key is not simply reaching 65/65, but making the game register that final point as a new exploration event.

A fresh character on the opposite realm, preferably Eternal, provides a clean way to track progress. Complete the campaign, explore until 64/65, and then enter the Pools of Creation to trigger the final update. Checking Saltwind Stronghold and the campaign traversal areas can also prevent unnecessary restarts.

With the workaround understood, players can approach Skovos exploration more efficiently instead of repeatedly clearing an already completed map. Once the achievement is secured, preparation for other expansion activities becomes easier, and having suitable Diablo IV Items can further reduce the time spent gearing up.
